 | Allan Sherman is best known for his hit "Hello, Muddah, Hello Fadduh" but he was no "one hit wonder". He produced a healthy body of work in the sixties and early seventies before his death.
A precursor to Weird Al Yankovic, Sherman was the master of song parody. This collection contains much of his best work including my favorites "Good Advice", "You Went the Wrong Way, Old King Louie" and "The Rebel".
At an Objectivist gathering a while back, I brought up Sherman's monolog "Hail to Thee, Fat Person". Another Objectivist jumped up to join the discussion and began reciting the words from this monolog exactly. That monolog is included in this collection.
Sherman once described himself this way: "...you're looking into Tiffany's most elegant show window, and in the window is a black velvet pillow, and right in the middle of the pillow is an onion. That's me."
Steve Allen described him this way: "At the art of parody he was--quite simply--the supreme master."
