No popular writer in America since the early 90s has employed the KASS approach more genuinely, dramatically, effectively and charmingly than Paglia. It's been especially gratifying to see her apply it to the wrinkled, sagging, stale butt that is academe.

She has her many flaws, of course, and I'm not just talking about the obvious political ones. But they don't detract from her charm.

Alec

(P.S. To Daniel: For some reason I don't think you got my SOLOmail response. If not, then I agree with whay you said -- I've read all her books amd she does evoke that excitement similar to what was felt when reading Rand.)

I finished reading Sex, Art, and American Culture last night.  So entertaining.

Yeah, Alec, for some reason I didn't get your Solo mail message.  I also can't find one of my recent posts--the one on that "confessions" thread where I confessed to that "Solo newbie" that I had been reading Camille Paglia instead of doing math.  Weird.  Perhaps there's a little glitch.

I think SOLO was specifically designed to edit out praise for ranting feminists ;-)

But seriously, I like this quote.

She's THE anti-feminist, silly.

That's funny Wikipedia claim that she is an "avowed" feminist.

She called herself a dissident feminist, or a TRUE, pro-sex feminist -- the exact opposite of those who are popularly defined by the term, whom she has spent her career destroying.

Right on!

I was only joking by the way. I knew you wouldn't be into a "feminazi" type.

I just found another brilliant quote by here:

"If civilization had been left in female hands we would still be living in grass huts."

Camille Paglia

I will have to explore her writing more. Thanks Alec.

Two more Paglia quotes:

"Patriarchy, routinely blamed for everything, produced the birth control pill, which did more to free contemporary women than feminism itself."

"Sex is the point of contact between man and nature, where morality and good intentions fall to primitive urges."

How so, Landon?  What are you referring to?
