Barbara and James have both said they are leaving. If they have instead decided to stay, all they need to do is say so (which they haven't). As Joe put it to me, "after declaring that they were leaving, I thought it was time that someone takes them seriously, even if it's not them."

Barbara and James have both been given ample space on SOLO to give their reasons why they are leaving. We don't need another two weeks of recriminations and parting shots.

I could understand it if they both were under moderation - because - they may be making yet more allegations of Linz's alcoholism. Many people here are already crying fowl for even starting that debate.

If Linz were an alcoholic or had a drinking problem - which no one that personally knows him believes, apart from James and Barbara - it is definitely his own private business.

And were it so, it should be handled as such by his friends or colleagues in private - until such time as he himself wants to discuss it publicly.

You just said "we dont need another two weeks of recriminations and parting shots." As long as others such as yourself are still taking shots at them then they should be allowed to make posts in response.

This is a deceptive atrocity.

Every single person that has met him personally and has posted to James' thread has said that he isn't.

I just started a rough count on the discussion of James' article and I stopped counting at ten.

All those that have found James' article convincing (apart from Barbara and James) have never had any personal contact in the flesh with him.

What more proof do you want?

I myself always said that the evidence was anecdotal at best and I have defended Linz also. The point here is that Barbara and James have been swept under the rug in the hopes that no one would notice.

Marcus, I am not looking for any proof of anything. I am just picking logic hole in that statement of yours. I have noticed that there are some people who know Linz personally who never posted anything on this subject. You are a scientist. You should know what kind of evidence is needed in order for you to make such statement - that "no one that personally knows him believes, apart from James and Barbara.."

Oh, and this sentence, we don't need another two weeks of recriminations and parting shots, is not a "shot" at James and BB, but my idea of what would happen if they were permitted to post what they have tried to post. I think SOLOists would play a big part in that circus as well.

Marcus, even this is not true. You need to read more carefully. I will not name names but some only said that this is a private matter. They may or may not imply what you stated here, but they certainly didn't make it overtly so.

OK Hong. I edited my post above to make it clear I mean't personal contact in the sense of meeting him in person.

But if you want a fully precise sentence then here it is:

"No one that I am aware of that has had physical contact with Linz, apart from James and Barbara, believes that he is an alcoholic."

Lets not further the Linz is/is not an alcoholic argument. The issue here is about two people who are very important to SOLO and Objectivism being blocked.

Whether or not I wish to see them leave, they DID say they were leaving. Joe has said before that people who state that they are leaving are put under moderation. They don't have to leave. I wish this whole thing could be worked out. Linz has also said as much, at least before James "article" was published. The point is, if your going to pick up your toys and go home, do it. Don't hang about commenting on how your going to leave. If your going to stay and talk, well then, stay and talk all you want.
