| | Quite. I seem to remember a piece by the Libertarian Party that compares the choice between the Democrats and the Republicans to the choice between David Letterman and Jay Leno - you may prefer one to the other, but wouldn't you much rather Chris Morris?
I find myself glad I don't have a vote in the USA in November - because I wouldn't vote for Kerry's economic views or socialist-like self-righteousness, but I wouldn't vote for Bush's theocratic leanings or excursions into outright authoritarianism.
Then I realise I do have the same choice. Or less, as there are no libertarian parties in the UK.

In 18th century England I would have been a Whig, in 19th century England—a Tory. In 19th century America I would have been a Democrat, in 20th century America— a Republican. In the 21st century I hesitate to associate myself with any of these names, as they have increasingly come to be synonymous with a single term: Socialism.
