I agree. But I have more to say: Incompetent statist largesse (e.g. when Arabs are taught to fly in this country, but not to land) -- something that cannot ever be a good thing -- is the greatest evil that Americans could ever fear. It is the one thing that could dissolve our great country. It is the one thing that could break our spirit. No enemy from the outside is as pernicious as the enemy from within -- an enemy that is familiar and doesn't cause our red flags to wave.
America is so powerful that only we could be the death of us now -- by turning our backs on what is right and good, and out of a blind and irrational fear; a fear that statistics would suggest to be an absurdity held up on a statist mantle (for the express purpose of more power-grabbing), in this otherwise rational nation-state.
Don't get me wrong. All viable terrorists need to be either incarcerated, or incinerated. But statist largesse is not the solution, it is the problem. We will not ever have the peace that Stalin or Hitler had (erroneously) longed for -- if we insist on the Great State as the final solution. We are just not big enough to police the entire world -- and that is an oft-unrecognized aspect of reality. Neo-cons (the New Right) are leftists in rationalized garb.
Ed [Note: I'm operating -- and have always operated -- under the yellow light for terrorism, never the green, nor the red. Half-wit terrorists have always needed incompetent statist largesse, in order to pull off the low-browed, 2-bit atrocities that they have -- there is no other way that they could have pulled it off, not in a country spending 10 times more than any others on national defense]
