I just think of the Alexis Gilliland cartoon: "Sure the government lies! Sure the newspapers lie!  But in a democracy, they aren't the same lies."  Now, I think we get the same lies.

Assuming that you understand that news in America is regulated by the government, where do you go for independent information?

al-Qaida claims responsibility for Amman explosions
Jordan-Iraq, Politics, 11/11/2005
The al-Qaida organization in Iraq led by Abu Musab al-Zarqawi justified its execution of Amman's explosions because Jordan has been converted into a launching pad for the "war against Islam."

and also...
Vast condemnation for Amman's explosions
Jordan-Regional, Politics, 11/10/2005
The explosions in the Jordanian capital Amman which was targeted by three explosions at hotels, and resulted in killing 67 persons and injuring other hundreds, were vastly deplored at the national, regional and international levels.

Why bother, you ask... Well, first of all, there is the problem of managed news.  Then, I went searching because when the second Gulf War broke out, I found the Indian newspapers more objective.  For one thing, we did not hear about US troops running low on food.  (They just advanced farther and faster than their supplies, but it was problem that we did not hear about.  At least, I didnot see it on CNN.)  So, this time, with the Amman hotel bombings, I went out to find English language newspapers.  What really piqued my interest was when the Shanghai Daily used exactly the same blurb from Reuters that CNN did.  So, I went looking for English language content from Arabic sources.  You never know...
