I just released a new internal mail system. You can try it out if you like here. You can send any comments, questions, or problems to me using this link.

To send to someone, type their name into the "To:" text field, and then press the "Enter" key on your keyboard, or press the "Preview/Spell Check" button. The checkbox beside the name indicates whether you want to keep the name in "To:" list. You can add multiple people at the same time by separating the names with the comma character (",").

I made 2 default filters for everyone, one puts atlas points in the Atlas Point folder, one puts mail from people who have less than 10 Atlas Points into the Junk folder.

Poor less than 10 Atlas point people. That's, like, discrimination or something! There oughta be a law against this!

Discrimination: (from Answers.com)
Treatment or consideration based on class or category rather than individual merit; partiality or prejudice: racial discrimination; discrimination against foreigners.

That is exactly what it is.

How do I turn off the feature that sends me notices of receiving Atlas points?  I don't want to keep checking my SOLO mail for unread messages each time I received a sanction.

Luke,

Click on your own profile, and then on "Go you your Preferences Page".  There, you'll see a checkbox entitled "Disable Atlas Notifications".

Luke, I could add "and mark as read" to the filter one of these days. I should also add the feature to be able to delete filters : ).

I transferred all of the old mail to SoloMail2. Notice that you can now see what you have sent! Also, when viewing a message, you can see its reply history as a conversation. : )

Spell checking is pretty easy to use, it will give you suggestions of what you spelled wrong, select what you want from the list, and press "Correct".

There's other cool features, like sorting of your folders by clicking on the table headers.

I'm off to work. Enjoy : ).

Hmmm, this looks like the only function of SOLO that seems to work 100% in my prefered browser -- Opera.  At least I can enter text, ect without having to open up Explorer.

Dean,

Well done. SoloMail2 looks great. I didn't know the sent mail can still be restored. And using "sooooolo" to denote the pages is a nice touch.

Luke, your welcome. I hope it will help you communicate more effectively with fellow Solo members.

Michael, thanks for the compliment, glad you like it.

Jason, I developed it in linux, using the Mozilla browser. If anything, it won't work right in IE : ).

JJ, thanks for the compliment. I'm glad to restore the "sent" mail. Unfortunately, the old mail system didn't keep track of the reply history. From now into the future, if you reply using the "Reply" or "(All)" link while viewing a message, you and the person you are mailing will be able to see the whole conversation at once. Two notes on the reply history:
- You will be able to see a message in your reply history, even after you put it in the "Trash".
- You will not be able to see a message in your reply history unless you were the sender or the message was specifically sent to you by "To:" or "bCC:".

Ciro, the only message I have read that wasn't mine was a message I sent to Joe with the old email system. The message had a list of things I had left to do, which I foolishly forgot to copy elsewhere (since I couldn't view it after sending).

Some bugs/features I'll probably tackle over the next few weeks:
1. Delete filters
2. Have the front page list folderName (#unread) instead of just displaying the total unread count.
3. Fix sorting by name.
4. Put "S o o 51-75 o o o l o" at the top.
5. Stay on the same page when "Move" is pressed.
6. "Apply now" a filter to a folder.
7. Search messages through subject, body, recipient, and sender.

If you have any other ideas or problems, please share them here, and I'll see what I can do.

For the sake of security: javascript and textarea html tags will be stripped out of your mail. All SQL queries are done with prepared statements to prevent SQL injection. All text is casted and filtered to be the correct format. If you know of any other security concerns with SQL or web postings, please let me know. If you find any security problems please send me a mail describing the problem.

Dean,

I just sent you a message. When I typed your name on the "To:" line it failed; but then with the "To:" line left empty, it succeeded - or so it said. Did you receive the message? What is the "To:" line for?

Adam, I did receive your message.

The "To:" text field is for searching for users to add to the "To:" list, which is below the "To:" text field. It only allows you to add a user once. If you have any suggestions on how to make this more clear, I'd be happy to make it more user friendly.

Note: Some Solo members may have the same name. If you do use the name search, you may want to click on the member, and view their profile, to make sure you are sending to the right person. I'll add another item to my todo list: putting images beside the To: list's names.

What do I need for that? I've got a pot with a glass lid.

If I buy some sort of metal grid with legs, put some water underneath, and the fish on top... would that work?

Currently I cook everything in that pot, usually with some olive oil.

Dean - you write, "If you have any suggestions on how to make this more clear, I'd be happy to make it more user friendly."

I'll be happy to. But first, exactly how is one supposed use it? What is one supposed to type into the "To:" field? How does one submit the search? And what is supposed to happen?

Adam,

Searching for a Solo member to send a message to

Action:
1. From your Mail Home, try clicking on "New Message".
2. Try placing the phrase "Dean, Adam, Joe" into the To: field
3. Press the Enter key on your keyboard, or you can press the review, spellcheck, or save buttons.

Results:
You should get many results for each person, in selection boxes.

Action:
4. Choose the people you want from the boxes, and then check the checkbox beside them to indicate you want to keep them on the "To:" list. Leaving them unchecked means you want them to dis-appear.
5. Press the Enter key on your keyboard, or you can press the review, spellcheck, or save buttons.

Results:
You should now have a "To:" list with checked checkboxes beside the names of individual Solo members.

Discussion:
Your message will be sent to any name that has a checked checkbox beside it.

Searching for a Solo member to send a message to, faster.

If you know the person's name in full, you can skip the step of choosing names from combo boxes by searching full names. To try this out:

Action:
1. Uncheck the checkboxes from the previous names.
2. Press the Enter key on your keyboard, or you can press the review, spellcheck, or save buttons.
3. Try searching for "Dean Gores, Adam Reed, Joseph Rowlands".
4. Press the Enter key on your keyboard, or you can press the review, spellcheck, or save buttons.

Results:
This time it will add the names, with checkboxes.

Conclusion

The search considers the first three words between each comma as a name. It will try to match these words up with the beginning of the First, Middle, Last, or Nickname of a Solo user.

Since it searches by the beginning of the names, searching for "De G, Ad Re, J Row" is good enough to constrain the names down to one person per name. Order doesn't matter.

Dean,

The prompt should be "To(search):"

Prefill the field with

"First Last, F M Last, Fi Las" highlighted for replacement.
