A link I found to a delightful document proposing how government intends to save us from and Avian flu. Perhaps its just a hoax?

http://www.sweetliberty.org/issues/war/safety/msehpa.pdf

Should citizens cooperate with government sacrificing them for collective interests? Rand objected to the draft, and I'd object to having my property, weapons, means to survive, et. confiscated on the same grounds.

Objectivists usually have two answers when telling the government to shove it:

1.  To be 'inclusive' we usually say private enterprise handles it better. or
2.  Government staying out is the morally right thing to do.

Now I think this bird flu is just another fad but the last thing I want is another 1918.  Epidemics are a whole nother animal then regular disease and for that I do indorse quartines.  Let me explain:

Say you are carrying an deadly airborne pathogen, what is the difference between you walking down a crowed street and a crazed jihadist with an AK walking down another.  Your both just as deadly and wether you want to be or not.  You do not have a constitutional right to spread disease, period.  This is how you correctly interpert the general welfare clause in the Constitution, just as the government has an obligation to protect us from from invasion or each other.

If this is not clear, look at it from a military point of view.  If hordes of Canadians with hockey sticks decide to invade the US and it looks like the battlefield will be Buffalo, the government is within its right to evacuate the city for the protection of the people.  The obvious counter-argument is a slippery slope but all I have to say is that the requirements for moving any population against their will is so extreme that there is little chance of this getting applied anywhere other then the worst of disasters.

I'm not bothered so much about quarantines as confiscation of private property, fuel, vehicles, food, weapons, et. for redistribution. As happened in New Orleans

That's a weak argument, as plenty of us have motive, means and opportunity, yet no intent that would classify us as terrorists, and lead to "preemptive retaliation".

1.  The people of New Orleans weren't quarantined, they were evacuated and the thieves are being punished the best we can.  There is no link there.

2.  I'm not calling you a terrorist, what I'm saying is that intent doesn't mean a damn.  I'm walking down the street with a gun minding my own damn business, I'm not hurting anyone.  I'm walking down the street infected, I can spread that shit whether I intend to or not.

As a person who is not infected or a government acting on my behalf, basically I have the right to say "don't get anywhere near me."  If you're infected in an epidemic, it isn't about you; its about me and others who aren't infected to exercise collective self defense from getting sick

The government stole vehicles, fuel, food, et., badly managed evacuation, then bungled the one thing it could of done well - send in the guard.

An effective government should have planned well in advance, matching poor with those better off who could volunteer to help them.

Agreed.
