I realised the NZ art scene was basically a sycophant of the political Left (which feeds them after all), however, the Labour party love fest that the Awards show became was sickening. (I switched off well before the end).

And the Dave Dobben duo! Give me a break. For heavens sake, don't let him know if Bin Laden ever visits these shores, we'll have to listen to him singing as well. Utter treacle.

Does anybody know of any NZ artists who have come out against State involvement in our lives, not accepted grants, etc? Not just singers: writers, film makers, anybody?

Split Enz, Misex and the gang 25 years ago protested against the government sales tax of pop records. Muldoon refused to relent on the grounds that this stuff wasn't culture, inspiring a very cool little song out of Dunners called 'Culture'....

Nobody gives a toss-pot
About the inflation rate

And nobody's buying records Rob!
It's your sales tax we all hate!

So don't give me culture,
I'm not hearing you Rob!
I could buzz around like a Beehive boy
But I'd like to see you do my job

But me no buts! Just be thankful for this Mark, I doubt you'll find better.
