Did it work in the last 40 years? I don't think so!

If anything, I think that forced integration may well have indirectly increased prejudice by driving it underground where it can fester and grow out of sight. Government-ordered integration doesn't do anything about the tribalistic us vs. them nonsense that lies at the root of prejudice; it seems to just reinforce it.

Well, like anything else, it is complicated.

On the one hand the U.S. Department of Whatever has been having trouble classifying people by race. There are so many mixed-race families, now two or more generations old, that no one knows what race they are.  Kids in school pick "races" based on their friends's choices, or their teachers' preferences.  Adults claim races that make their employers happy.  The government knows this and has no solution.  So, integration has worked.

Realize that that is true because the Civil Rights laws were not imposed on us by Martians, but were the express will of the people.  America had no tolerance for racism.  It was on the way out... and out it went.

On the other hand, here in Ann Arbor, we have college classes in Black Psychology as part of Afro American Studies.  "We be different."

If that were forced on them by the Ayran Nation Church, they would torch the school -- and rightfully so.  But they do it to themselves.  Go figure.

Dave Chappelle did a skit called THE RACIAL DRAFT 2000, where the Jews claimed Lenny Kravitz, the Latinos claimed Elian Gonzalez (before the white people tried to claim him...again), the Black Delegation claimed Tiger Woods (fer'shizzle!), the White people pulled a fast one and claimed Colin Powell (who's not even part white) on the condition that they take Condaleeza Rice (Given away by blacks!) and the Asian Delegation drafted the entire Wu Tang Clan.

Joe Maurone glibly jested: "... and claimed Colin Powell (who's not even part white) ..."

If Gen. Colin Powell is not even part White, then what does African mean?  The guy looks Whiter than I do.  How did his ancestors manage that absent any Eurotude?  Come on... what's his blood type?  How did he hold up against malaria while in Viet Nam?  Was it sickle cell?  Come on...  Let us in on this.  Heck, if he is not part White, then I am definitely claiming to be part Black and lining up for my fair share of the money I am morally opposed to doling out!

Huh?

(I didn't glibly suggest it, it was part of the show.)
Michael, if I have to explain it...sheesh. Anyway, the racial draft was based on the idea that you mentioned, that so many people are mixed now. The players in the racial draft were people of mixed heritage (Lenny Kravitz, for example, is the son of a Jewish Hollywood lawyer and his mother, Roxy Roker of the Jeffersons, was black.) The joke in the show is that white people wanted to draft Colin Powell as white, even though, as far as is known, he's not mixed. The joke is that Colin Powell is considered an "Oreo" (black on the outside, white on the inside.) The idea that Condi Rice is part of the agreement is part of the joke that black people don't identify with these two figures.

Now, let's here more about you, my brother from another planet...

Depends whether you mean '(en)forced', or..culturally evolved.

     The former: no

      The latter: yes
