Hell yeah you look good in boots!  ;-)

And hey, sometimes I think the world could use a Ragnar Danneskjold.  I know I'd like my income taxes back, and either way I'd like to limit the federal machine.

Y'know, if we just break everything, we'd solve the unemployment problem!  Sounds like a plan.

I'm with Luke on this one, Heidi, you really do look good in boots ;-) & it's a cryin' shame that that pic isn't any bigger. I mean, it just used to be shoes with me but lately boots have been running a hot second.

But...this was a serious article and it deserves serious attention.

Heidi-
I'm not really sure what to make of this article.  I don't recall seeing anyone say that natural disasters are inherently 'good', but it would be hard to deny that certain sectors of the local economy boom after such occurrences.

Edited because wine makes for some creative spelling.

Jody, Heidi is making Hazlitt's point that you must always look beyond the initial or primary consequences to the secondary or further consequences of any action.

The destruction of capital can only be made good by the creation of new or the reallocation of existing capital. Either way, it's a waste. That's the point.

The construction companies in NOLA may benefit from extra work but at the expense of lost or delayed construction elsewhere.

Ross

That notwithstanding, Heidi still looks good in boots :-)

There is a pirate fleet off the gulf coast, the oil companies. ;-)

However, why is it we passively sit and wait for these hurricanes to strike?  It seem to me that a well placed bunker buster when they are still far out in the Atlantic would dissipate them.

Last year, I read of a company that had developed a substance that was exceptionally good at soaking up water.  They were supposed to test it, seed a hurricane with it this year, to see if hurricanes could not just be 'dried' up.

I think it is time we were more proactive in some way.
