The Need for Big Government E.P.A: Environmental Protection Agency. There to set rules and regulations which supposedly 'protect the environment'. Example: DDT DDT is an insecticide, which is rapidly lethal to insects such as mosquito. It was invented in 1943 by a Swiss chemist named Paul Muller who in 1948 was awarded the Nobel Prize for Physiology for Medicine. DDT saved lives by preventing diseases such as typhus (carried by lice) and malaria. (Carried by mosquitoes). Despite this, the E.P.A imposed a total ban on DDT, reducing the supplies for third world countries. The result: literally millions of people started dying from malaria because they could no longer use DDT as an insecticide. Take Sri Lanka as an example: In 1948 when DDT was first used, 2.8 million cases of malaria had been reported. By 1963 DDT use had dropped the total to just 17 cases. After DDT was banned, by 1969 the number of cases had surged back to 2.5 million. What grounds did the E.P.A have for banning DDT? There was an insinuation that DDT might be harmful to humans. Yet there was never a shred of evidence that it could accumulate to harmful levels in humans. Quote: '.... despite intensive research conducted over many years, DDT is not known to have ever caused the death or serious illness of any person' (Source: 'Facing The Future', Michael Allaby). DDT was harmful to some animals. Yet these problems could have been solved simply by reducing the usage. Later the real reason for the ban came to light: The new director of the E.P.A just wanted to show everyone 'who's boss'. Clearly this superb work is the finest example of what the E.P.A does. The government obviously knows what's best for the environment. Government regulation of the economy. Example 1: Alcohol. During the era of 'prohibition' in the U.S, the government tried to ban the sale of alcohol. The result was a huge black market, which fuelled organized crime in the United States. The gangs had to operate outside the law so that's probably why all the murders started. When prohibition started the homicide rate doubled. When prohibition ended the homicide rate was cut in half. A fine example of why we need a government to regulate the economy. If the government hadn't banned alcohol, why then, much organized crime in the U.S would never have started. And as a bonus you got all the murders too. Example 2: The war on drugs. Every year the U.S government spends literally billions of taxpayer dollars battling drugs. This keeps the prices artificially high and thus makes drugs attractive to organized crime all around the world. And with no peaceful way to resolve disputes, gunfights are the only option: that may have something to do with the huge numbers of murders and gun battles on the streets every year. As to the drugs, with no labels on them people are overdosing all the time. Could that be the reason why there are so many addicts and people going bananas? As to the prisons, boy, billions and billions of dollars of taxpayer money are needed to contain all the people convinced of drugs offenses... it's 60% of the prison population after all. It's mostly the blacks that get convicted of course...funny given the fact that whites are the main users of drugs. Astute government regulators. Those guys know what's best quite obviously! They need to dictate what everyone can buy and sell because it all helps 'the social good'. Why if it weren't for the U.S war on drugs then half the world's criminal gangs wouldn't exist, most of the violence in the U.S wouldn't happen, and billions of dollars in expenses for all those prisons and cops wouldn't be needed. U.S Central Intelligence Agency: Supposedly they're to 'help provide defense for the nation'. Example: Special ops: Cuba. Launch an invasion of Cuba with a small bunch of amateurs. Fail to provide back up or air support and abandon the guys to the enemy. Let them all be slaughtered at the 'Bay Of Pigs'. After this, keep trying to assassinate Fidel Castro every couple of years and bungling it every time. Example: Special ops: Afghanistan. Use the C.I.A to train up a whole bunch of Islamic fanatics in Afghanistan. After getting those guys to shred blood to deal to the Soviets, leave them in the lurch. Piss off a guy called 'Osama bin Laden' on the way out. Perfect examples of the tremendous compassion and wisdom of past U.S politicians. Those of you living in the U.S can rest assured; your tax dollars are going to a military machine which is fighting for democracy day in and day out. Co-operation and peace making is what politicians are best at after all. U.S Science & Technology agencies Example: Nuclear power. Spend billions of dollars subsiding nuclear fission plants. Try to store all that nuclear waste that lasts 10,000 years. Oh, don't worry about the occasional radiation leaks. Did I mention the constant risk of nuclear meltdowns from accidents or terrorism? Example: The SSC. (Super conducting Super Collider). Start building a huge circular underground tunnel in the state of Texas for doing physics experiments. Spend $11 billion dollars of taxpayer money and then decide that you don't want to finish it and abandon the project. Example: The Space Shuttle: A manned reusable spacecraft capable of reaching Earth orbit. Launch it every few months for no reason at all at a cost of $400 million a pop. Example: The Space Station. Create an ugly, worthless tin can in space for no real reason what so ever. Spend $10's of billions of dollars even before anything gets off the ground. Wonderful shining examples of government technological advancement! F.D.A: Food and Drug Administration. Supposedly there to protect the public from harmful foods and drugs. Example: Medicines. People are wondering why prescription drugs for the elderly are costing so much these days. What are those companies up to? Well, if they could just get pass the F.D.A it might help. Just a little bit of government bureaucracy to get past... as in thousands of pages of forms, years of testing, arbitrary restrictions... millions of dollars wasted in getting approvals from bureaucrats. Of course half the experimental medicines won't reach you at all because the F.D.A thinks 'it might be bad for you'. Thousands of people are dying from diseases that might have been treatable in the meantime. Boy, if it weren't for the F.D.A we'd suddenly be flooded with tons of cheap medicines. Can't have that. Well, I'd say the facts speak for themselves. We need more politicians, more bureaucrats and more government regulations. The politicians and government departments have obviously done wonderful work and they surely know 'what's best'. And we need them to save us from those capitalists.
